Experience the folk lore of olde world river arts, with hands on activities that honour the water, the autumnal forests and streams. As for the sirens… we’ll provide the wax, and as the moon waxes and wanes, we’ll celebrate the season with art, science, sport, and ale…”A mermaid found a swimming lad, Picked him for her own, Pressed her body to his body, Laughed; and plunging down ,Forgot in cruel happiness That even lovers drown.” Yeats

Experience magical walking sticks and mystical magic wands by Chuck Reece, created from branches adrift along our own river systems. Discover the water nymph in you! “Come away O human child! To the waters and the wild. With a faery hand in hand, For the worlds more full of weeping than you can understand.” Yeats…. ale and fare…

“The Feathered Hook” -honouring the sacred fish, olde world river arts, fly tying, casting, art, ale, bbq …”Only those become weary of angling that bring nothing to it but the idea of catching fish.” Sabatini. Surrounded by the rich symbolism of water paintings, pottery, and works by local artists, guests will experience the ancient art of tying flys and the magical movement, the dance of the fly cast. Discover the art and science behind honouring the sacred fish. Pro fly fishermen Brian Primeau and Arron Varga will delight us with their river stories and show us the how-to of these olde world river crafts. Fly tying and casting clinics from “Hook Line and Sinker.” For everyone interested in canoeing, hiking, art, poetry and river arts, bring along your equipment and your questions for hands on fun… bbq and ale tasting.

“Loaves and Fishes” -Our river flows thru us  - we toast local ale, food, art, and simple culinary tradition with an ale tasting and bbq…They all ate and were satisfied” New Testament… Cassandra from Bracelet of Hope will be here, and  celebrating their 25th anniversary, Wellington Brewery produces their craft from local Wellington water and Canadian malt . It’s ripe for the tasting, and they’re sending it our way. Our good old fashioned simple Canadian bbq features fare from our own neighbourhood Valeriote’s market. FASM Annual General Meeting was Wednesday, May 12th at the AM Gallery in Milton Mall at 7pm

Category: Gatherings, General Information, Member Shows – Jenny Panda – 12:02 am

The Annual General Meeting featured speaker Nancy Cuttle, a talented artist, active member of the Arts community and part of our very own Fine Art Society.

Nancy Cuttle has been communicating through her works of art for almost three decades. In the mid nineties, her focus shifted away from painting and drawing when she discovered her gift for sculpting. Working in several sculptural mediums, she has won numerous awards in premier Juried Exhibitions in the Greater Toronto Area.

Nancy completed a landmark sculpture series in celebration of Canadian women in the 20th century. So significant is this body of work that it was exhibited in the Hall of Honour of the Parliament Buildings in Ottawa, an honour never before bestowed on an artist.

The journey taken with this project is a story unto itself. You are invited to enjoy Nancy’s presentation “Home Economics a Celebration of Canadian Women in the 20th Century” at our AGM on Wednesday May 12.

Four of the sculptures are part of her Telling Stories exhibition at the Halton Region Museum Visitor’s Centre running until May 31. http://www.halton.ca

Nancy’s talk was followed by Elections and Reports.  News regarding new board members and updates re FASM will follow soon!

Message from Fibre Artist, Kathy Tyers

Category: Member Shows – Jenny Panda – 12:10 am

In the world of fibre art there are a few really excellent juried shows. One of the best is Threadworks, which assembles every three years and then tours Ontario.

(For a better view of this sample of Kathy’s artwork-

click the Members’ Gallery at the top of the page)

This year begins a new show with a theme of “Trees” and I entered a piece named Heartfelt, which has been chosen as Juror’s Honourable Mention. The show starts at the Wellington Museum and Archives as per the link below. It will also be in the Burlington Art Centre in about a year and a half. So if you really want to see some of the directions that this new art form is heading, you cannot do better than taking in this exhibit at some time.                        Kathy Tyers
